An Evening of Gratitude: Honouring a Legacy of Service

On Thursday 20 November 2025, Al-Faisal College in Auburn hosted a farewell dinner in honour of His Excellency Mohamed Khalil Morsi, outgoing Consul General of the Arab Republic of Egypt, marking the conclusion of his diplomatic service in Australia. The evening celebrated the strong cultural, educational and diplomatic ties between Egypt and Australia and was attended by distinguished guests including former Federal Attorney General the Hon. Philip Ruddock AO, Mayor Bilal El Hayek, and several Consuls General and community leaders. The program opened with Qur’an recitation, the Australian National Anthem, and a multimedia presentation highlighting the growth of the Australian Islamic Cultural Centre and Al-Faisal Colleges, and the role of mosques and schools in fostering social cohesion, education, and interfaith understanding.

Speeches by Mr Shafiq Abdullah Khan (Founder and Managing Director of Al-Faisal Colleges) and Dr Intaj Ali (Director General) paid tribute to His Excellency’s character, leadership, and commitment to cultural exchange, as well as the contributions of Egyptian and Saudi scholars and educators to Arabic and Islamic Studies in Australia. In his farewell address, His Excellency expressed heartfelt gratitude for the friendships and community bonds formed in Sydney and praised Al-Faisal College as a beacon of education, faith, and service. The evening concluded with the presentation of a commemorative plaque by Mr Shafiq Khan and Mrs Safia Khan Hassanein, followed by a ceremonial cake cutting and prayers for continued unity, peace and solidarity.
